Ingredients

  • 8oz Frozen Pearl Onions
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 lb. Seitan, cubed
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, seeded and diced
  • 2 Teaspoons Garlic, minced
  • 1 14.5oz Can Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 Cup Vegetable Broth
  • 1/4 Cup Red Wine Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 Teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 Bay Leaf

Instructions

  1. Bring a medium saucepan of salted water to boiling and blanch the pearl onions for one minute. Remove from heat, drain and trim the ends.
  2. Bring one tablespoon of oil to smoking over medium heat in a large skillet, then add the pearl onions and cook until lightly browned; about five minutes.
  3. Transfer to a slow cooker.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining oil and brown the seitan on all sides;about give minutes.
  5. Combine all the remaining ingredients in the slow cooker, with the seitan, and cook for 6-8 hours, covered. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
  6. Serve and enjoy!
