The food pyramid has traditionally been made for those on an omnivorous diet, but the USDA has in recent years embraced vegetarianism as well, recognizing it as a healthy alternative to a typical diet. With millions of Americans following a vegetarian diet, and more switching over daily, there is more of a need to provide guidance and support for our dietary needs.
If you study the vegetarian food pyramid below, you’ll notice that whole grains remain at the bottom, and are thus supposed to compose the largest portion of your diet. Fruits and vegetables next. Then legumes and dairy, and topped with sugars and distilled fats.
